a vision of a bank of the future
The design combines the features of a lobby, showroom, club, bank, and meeting point. The initial ambition was to create conditions for a new standard in communication; to deny the status of paid professionals and clients. It tries to impose the impression of an equal, mutually beneficial partnership. The dealings take place in an informal atmosphere as if the meeting was in a club – outside broker’s workplace. The spatial concept consists of two basic components: grid and boxes
grid
It defines the space. The open spatial mega grid represents the scale of the world of investments. Its three-dimensional quality represents the spatial matrix of relations in financial markets. Another possible interpretation of the grid is a fixed structure, order, rules, soundness. Its generous structure is visible from the street level.
boxes
Box like rooms levitate in the space of the grid. They define themselves against the grid by their organic shape. These are the places providing the background for communication in the open space. They are enclosed and separated by a sufficient distance to provide privacy for dialogues while providing the optical contact with the surroundings.
reception
The reception is the first point of contact at the entrance to the IC space. The reception is responsible for making appointments with brokers, reserving meeting boxes, accepting orders for refreshment, taking visitors to all levels, and
coordinating the utilization of all functions.
meeting box
It is actually formed by a sofa set. The only difference from an ordinary sofa set is that the table over which the communication takes place is also an interactive projection surface. It operates in the same way as a touch-screen. It allows displaying and controlling of presentation programmes, works as a keyboard and at the same time it incorporates a printer for printing of paper documents and a box with advertising materials. It is further fitted with a communication link
to the bar and the reception.
bar
The bar extends the range of places for informal communication. It accepts orders from the reception or from individual boxes.
multifunctional character
When meetings within IC have been completed and the IC offices have been locked, the space may be used for social or club events of the bank and its partners. The reception is open at all times.
The design offers the following basic utilisation
possibilities:
bank – communication with clients regarding the products of the investment centre
showroom – possibility to present the bank, all its services, its history, philosophy, and ambitions
VIP bank club – the club provides services for dealings with VIP clients in the centre of Prague.
meeting point – following an agreement at the reception, VIP clients may use IC space for private meetings or business dealings.
party room – holding social events of the bank and its
partners.
example of operational algorithm
A client enters the reception. The receptionist welcomes the client, informs the broker of client’s presence, and offers the client refreshment which the receptionist orders at the bar. The receptionist takes the client to the third level on the 1st floor where the broker is waiting for the client. The broker takes the client to a reserved box. The dealings take place there and refreshment is served. When the dealings have been completed, the broker sees the client
off to the reception which takes the client down to the entrance level.
technical design
The design utilises the tectonics of the building. The motif of a spatial grid incorporates the actual pillars and beams of the reinforced concrete structure of the building. The grid motif even overlaps over the 2nd floor without substantial interference into the layout of this floor. It is formed by a light built-in structure. The structure may hold building service systems, light-current installations, air conditioning, etc.
There are openings cut in ceiling panels connecting individual floors. The design keeps the existing vertical routes including the escape stairway. The levels of IC space are interconnected by the hydraulic platform having the role of the reception. Besides that the floors are connected by the emergency spiral staircase. The sanitary facilities have been kept in their locations allowing connecting to the current building services system. The motif of the spatial grid is lined with a light glazed façade up to the height of three above ground floors.
