The previous owner tried to capitalise on the plot in the centre of the historic city by building a large number of small flats in a concentrated form of apartment building. But he has long faced resistance in his deliberations. The buyer of the project asked us for an alternative view of the housing in this location. We agreed with the new investor on the inappropriateness of the standard of small apartments in such an attractive location. So we defragmented the building volume into a smaller number of but larger housing units. And we dispersed them around the lot in the form of family homes in a granularity corresponding to the surrounding development. This allowed us to attach the originally dominant structure to the gently sloping terrain, giving it not only a completely different form, but also parameters. Living in apartments has become living in autonomous homes with their own gardens. Defragmentation has also created the premise to create a picturesque rooftop landscape with plenty of opportunity to enjoy a view of the Veda Brandýsa from each house.
