The mass of the tenement house copies the footprint of the razed building. The design tries to cross two basic concepts of modern architecture: plan libre and Raumplan. One meter deep concrete rafts replace floor slabs. Floors (ceilings) oscillate between the top and bottom surfaces of the raft. The drop defines positions within the layout. Outside, the raft shows off in the form of spandrel strips below windows altering with continuous strip windows. The horizontal transparency is achieved by reducing the vertical load-bearing structures allowed by the raft’s dimension. The same as it allows aggressive jutting the balconies disturbing the rigid volume of the house given by the regulation.
