Completed in 2001, the sanatorium offers comprehensive spa treatment with full board.
Practical operation soon showed that the spa treatment section was able to satisfy more spa guests than could be put up in the original guest quarters of the sanatorium. The objective thus was to increase the number of beds by 18, create a more varied offer of hotel room standards and expand the administrative support facilities.
Although the original building is compact, a complementing separate annex was designed to increase the capacity. The form chosen is that of a garden pavilion with a subtle insertion block connecting the operations. As hotel rooms with private loggias are highly popular, the design placed an emphasis on an easy connecting between the exterior and interior. Five rooms and four apartments can subdivided to create self-contained units. While the entrance hall and amenities are of the same standard in both buildings, the bedrooms in the pavilion can be separated from the living area by sliding glass walls. The living space is turned into a loggia by sliding the glass shell of the building to side and folding it against the jamb. The structure can thus be converted into a sort of porch. The system further features sun blinds from canvas.
The autonomous position of the pavilion within the overall composition is stressed by both its construction concept, selection of materials and the choice of color white.
As opposed the distinctively horizontal composition of the original building, the annex is virtually completely defined by a vertical grid of foldable window elements. Masonry with monolithic ceilings was used in terms of construction.
