A continuous and persistent effort to make the environment in Františkovy Lázně even more "spa-like" provoked an investigation free of prejudice, elegantly and contemporarily expressing the relaxed spirit. The site for the new building is located on the south edge of a park surrounding the town core. The scale of farmhouses, typical to the Cheb region, contrasts with structure of older villas.
The single building of the sanatorium contains all the important functional components of a classical spa technology, including accommodation, catering, and balneotherapy.
The two-storey building is partly cellared, with a ground plan of 47x9,2 m and capacity of 42 beds. Besides handicap access the first level accommodates the reception area, dininig hall, and balneotherapy facilities, while the second level is used exclusively for accommodation. The service areas are located in the basement. The principal theme of the building is utmost transparency and contact with the garden and park.
In terms of construction, the structure is conceived as a steel skeleton with masonry walls: this allows for vertical coordination of different spatial modules.
The greates emphasis is placed on the therapy zone: a centrally located, sea-water therapy pool is surrounded by the wet and dry treatment areas concentrated in cantillevered parts. Fasilities used for specific procedures and the physician´s office are enclosed in fixed masonry blocks. Free space runs alongside these blocks via glazed walls through the building into the garden, obscured only by walls of frosted tinted glass and cloth screens in subtle pastel colours.
